Kiswahili for Foreigners Course

Introduction: The Department of Languages and Literature at DUCE offers Kiswahili for Foreigners Course that takes students through listening, speaking, reading and writing activities using cultural contents. For this course, special emphasis is placed on East African content. Also, there will be classroom and out-of-class activities or exercises that will require frequent day-to-day interaction with native speakers of Kiswahili in Tanzania (Dar es Salaam, Zanzibar, Bagamoyo etc.). The course generally aims at enabling students to develop some Kiswahili interactive and communicative skills which will enable them to communicate with Tanzanians and other Kiswahili speakers with ease.


Mode of Delivery: There are two modes of delivering this course, namely intensive course and evening classes. Intensive course is offered for eight weeks consecutively. This programme of the course is offered during the long vacation, i.e. August – October every year. Evening classes for Kiswahili for Foreigners course is offered after normal working hours, i.e. between 03.00 pm - 08.00 pm during the week-days. Arrangements for week-end classes are made for interested parties.


Charges per Student:


Evening Class Course

1. Application fee:   30,000/=  (Or $ 30) (once)

2. Registration fee:   100,000/= (or $ 100) (once)

3. Tuition fee:    500,000/= (or $ 500) (per month)

4. Secretarial services:   100,000/=   (or $ 100) (once)

     Total        730,000/=  (or $ 730)


Eight week Intensive course

1. Application fee:  30,000/=  (or $ 30) (once)

2. Registration fee:  100,000/=  (or $ 100) (once)

3. Tuition fee:   1,500,000/= (or $ 1500) (per term, 8 weeks)

4. Secretarial services:  100,000/= (or  $ 100) (once)

5. Trips (Bagamoyo – 2 days) 200,000/= (or $ 200) (once)

    Total    1,930,000/= (or $ 1930) (for the whole course duration)


Mode of payment: All payments have to be channeled through the following account (in any branch in the country): Bank: CRDB, Account Name: DUCE Pre-entry Account, Account Number: 01J1092000004. Clients are required to bring and leave bank pay-in-slips which will be kept by the coordinator at DUCE for record keeping purposes. Clients will be given DUCE receipts for their records.
